SCDES Reopens Shellfish Harvesting Beds in Charleston County

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has reopened shellfish harvesting beds in Charleston County that were temporarily closed due to heavy rainfall from Hurricane Helene.

"The shellfish harvesting beds in Shellfish Management Area 07, which includes Bulls Bay and Cape Romain Harbor, are now reopened," said Mike Marshall, manager of SCDES’s Shellfish Sanitation Section. "Water quality data indicate that bacteria levels are once again suitable for shellfish harvesting."
