Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Approved Continuing Education Unit Classes
Continuing Education Units are obtained by taking approved courses pertaining to septic systems. Beginning July 1, 2025, all septic system installers are required to obtain a certain amount of CEUs depending on the tier of licensure. CEUs must be completed every 2 years and submitted with license renewals.
Please Note: Only courses taken after January 1, 2025, will count toward the required number of CEUs.
Anyone attending these courses must register with the entity offering the course. Please contact SCDES prior to attending any course not listed below to ensure the credit hours will be accepted.
Effective March 1, 2026, SCDES will only accept CEUs obtained from entities/courses approved through the Department. Previous to this update, SCDES showed reciprocity and recognized CEUs obtained from out-of-state entities, if they have been approved by the regulatory authority for that state. If you have obtained CEUs from an out-of-state entity that has been approved by the state’s regulatory authority prior to March 1, 2026, SCDES will accept those CEUs. If you have registered for a course with an out-of-state entity prior to March 1, 2026, and the course is scheduled to take place after March 1, 2026, please submit proof of registration and date the registration took place to Christie Watkins at christie.watkins@des.sc.gov. Deadline for submitting this documentation will be February 16, 2026.
