The RCRA Federal Facilities Section in the Division of Waste Management (RCRA) provides oversight to DoD facilities to ensure compliance with requirements for management of Hazardous Waste and cleanup of past waste management activities. This includes meeting requirements under the South Carolina Hazardous Waste Management Regulations and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are not currently regulated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency or the state as a hazardous constituent under RCRA. On April 17, 2024, EPA designated two per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances - perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid, including their salts and structural isomers, as hazardous substances under CERCLA. The Department of Defense conducts PFAS investigations and takes actions under CERCLA. The RCRA Federal Facilities Section reviews DoD investigation work plans and reports as a stakeholder under CERCLA.
