The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) maintains public records that are available for review, upon request, in accordance with the state's Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”).

SCDES follows the FOIA Policies and Procedures and the Family Privacy Protection policy when reviewing and fulfilling requests for copies of records.

I. GENERAL

It is hereby the policy of the Department of Environmental Services that records of the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (hereinafter "Department") be open to the public for inspection and copying pursuant to, and subject to any limitations of, the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), S.C. Code Ann. 30-4-10 et seq. (1976, as amended). Further, that the Department be committed to following both the letter and spirit of the FOIA.

The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) establishes this policy on the collection and dissemination of personal information in accordance with Sections 30-2-10 through 30-2-50 of the South Carolina Code of Laws.
