what engineering advancement will make life better 100 years from now

Engineers play a vital role in shaping the world around us, solving complex challenges and driving innovation. From February 16-22, 2025, we celebrate Engineers Week, a time to recognize the incredible contributions of engineers and inspire the next generation to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

This year’s theme, “Design Your Future,” highlights the limitless possibilities of engineering. Engineers are at the forefront of advancements in renewable energy, artificial intelligence, urban planning and more — working to create sustainable solutions for a better tomorrow.

At the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), engineers are essential in protecting our state’s natural resources. Their expertise ensures safe drinking water, effective waste management and innovative environmental solutions that benefit communities statewide.

Join us in celebrating Engineers Week by engaging with future engineers — whether through mentoring, classroom visits or hands-on activities. Together, we can inspire the problem-solvers of tomorrow and continue designing a future full of possibilities!
