The S.C. Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) Laboratories conducts monitoring, sample analysis, and data management providing validated data meeting quality control requirements for environmental decision-making to SCDES Programs, EPA, & the Public. SCDES Laboratories also certifies public & private environmental laboratories (drinking water & wastewater plants, industries & commercial laboratories, state & federal laboratories and is responsible for the SCDES Laboratories’ Quality Management Program.

The SCDES Laboratories group is comprised of five main areas: 

• The Analytical and Radiological Environmental Services Division 
• The Division of Air Quality Analysis 
• The Office of Environmental Laboratory Certification 
• The SCDES Laboratory Quality Assurance Assistance
• Regional laboratories

There are seven regional laboratories throughout the state located in Aiken, Beaufort, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Lancaster, and Myrtle Beach that perform microbiological and chemical testing.
