Detailed Dams Inspection Training

The SCDES Dam Safety Program will be providing a free, 1-day training class specifically targeted to SC-registered consulting engineers on how to perform a Detailed Inspection. The training will also be open to dam owners and operators interested in gaining a broader understanding of dams, the scope of work and effort associated with a Detailed Inspection, and what to expect when hiring a consulting engineer to perform one.
Because a Detailed Inspection has the potential to be a significant investment of time and resources, the Department intends for this training to serve multiple purposes:
- For all attendees to understand the legal and regulatory definitions and requirements for Detailed Inspections;
- For Professional Engineers to understand what is required to satisfy state law and regulations when performing a Detailed Inspection, to accurately scope proposals for services to dam owners, to minimize rework and schedule delays, and to get it right on the first attempt.
- For owners and operators to be able to effectively evaluate engineering services proposals and be able to make informed decisions, to understand the services being provided and set reasonable expectations for project budgets and schedules, and to ensure the resulting work delivers a Detailed Inspection which satisfies legal and regulatory requirements.
