SCDES to Host Open House for Introducing Saluda River Basin Plan

Plan outlines strategies for ensuring Saluda River basin maintains water resources for all current and future users

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The S.C. Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) and Saluda River Basin Council invite residents to attend an upcoming open house and presentation to review and provide comments about the draft Saluda River Basin Plan. Public input is an integral part of the plan, which will help identify best management practices that ensure an adequate supply of water will be maintained in the Saluda Basin for all current and future users.  

The draft plan was developed over a two-year period by the Saluda River Basin Council, a working group of stakeholders with water interests in the basin, under the guidance of the South Carolina State Water Planning Framework published in 2019. Members of the public are invited to review the plan and speak with river basin council members at the upcoming open house:

The draft Saluda River Basin Plan includes an assessment of current and future water availability in the basin and documents water management strategies to help ensure water is available for all future uses in the basin for the next 50 years. The draft plan is available online at des.sc.gov/saludabasinplanning.  

The meeting is as an opportunity for the Saluda River Basin Council to solicit residents’ input about the draft plan and to answer questions about water use management that will benefit all water uses for years to come. The public comment period for submitting feedback on the draft plan is from May 29, 2025, through June 30, 2025 – visit the webpage des.sc.gov/saludabasinplanning for information on submitting comments.
